Michael (Mike) Korcek discussed his life prior to NIU and the experiences that influenced his decision to study there. He described his time at NIU as a journalism major working at the Northern Star. He recounted notable teams of NIU that did exceptionally well, and the university's advancement into Division 1 athletics. As Sports Information Director, he oversaw NIU's media coverage and exposure for the university's atheltics. It was his job to relay NIU's sports statistics and general information from the university to the news media and public. He goes on to recount notable events on campus, including the Vietnam protests of the early 1970s and the 2008 shooting. Mr. Korcek also touched on his post-faculty years, staying in close contact and involvement with NIU sports and journalism. After the main interview questioning had concluded, Mr. Korcek brought out multiple NIU sports artifacts in the forms of catalogs from various years of NIU atheltics prominence.
