Jerrold Zar, retired faculty member and alumni from Northern Illinois University, worked at the college from 1968-2002, most notably as provost for graduate studies and research as well as dean of the graduate school. After receiving his undergraduate degree from NIU in 1962, he attended the University of Illinois, earning his Master's and Doctorate in biology. Jerrold Zar returned to NIU in 1968 to serve in various departments, as well as on committees and boards at the university, including participating in a multitude of local organizations related to the school and higher education in DeKalb Illinois. Jerrold Zar currently serves on the 125th Northern Illinois University Anniversary Celebrations Committee and requested to be interviewed for the oral history project hoping to provide his perspective of 38 years of experience as a student and faculty member to the project. Topics that Jerrold Zar discussed include his undergraduate life, musical experiences, faculty interactions, departmental challenges, university financial struggles, and time spent on the many boards and committees he participated in.
