Sue Doederlein describes her life as a member of the faculty at Northern Illinois University and her activities in the DeKalb County community. She discusses her activities teaching in the university's CHANCE program and gives an account of its origins and purpose. She also recounts her experiences in the local Civil Rights Movement in the late 1960s and 1970s. She discusses her activities with Students for a Democratic Society, the Black Panther Party and the Young Socialist Alliance while a graduate student at Northwestern University, and at NIU.
