My dear Sir: Yours of the 9th is just received. I can only answer briefly. Restfully assured that the good people of the South, who

will put themselves in the same temper mood towards me which you do, will find no cause to complain of me.

While I cannot, as yet, make any committal as to offices, I sincerely hope I may find it in power to oblige the friends of Mr. Wintersmith
