Hymn 10. C. M.
Words by Mrs. Follen.
1. What mean ye, thus to bruise and bind
My creatures? saith the Lord,
And starve your brother's craving mind,
Who asks to hear my word?
2. What mean ye, thus to make him toil,
Through long and dreary years,
And shed, like rain upon your soil,
His blood and bitter tears.
3. What mean ye, when God's bounteous hand
To you so much has given
That from the Slave, who tills your land,
You keep both earth and heaven?
4. When, at the judgment, God shall call —
"Where is thy brother?" say,
What mean ye to the Judge of all
To answer in that day?
