The Taylor Gathering.

By B. P. Porter.
AIR — M'Greggor's Gathering

The people! they're rising in South and in North,
The mountains and valleys are sending them forth;
From faction and leaders alike they are free;
And they come, honest chieftain, to rally by thee.
Then hallo, hallo, Rough and Ready —
While there're yoemen in forest and boatmen on river,
Thy name, Rough and Ready, shall flourish forever.

Though the Whigs may desert us, and Democrats too,
And sold to their idols prove faithless to you,
And your want of their principles love to deride,
Yet the principal people are firm by your side.
Then gather, gather, gather, gather, gather, gather,
While there're yeomen in forest and boatmen on river,
Thy name, Rough and Ready, shall flourish forever.

To greet you, from mountain and valley we come,
No sectional gratitude welcomes you home; —
The banner you bore with such triumphant elate,
Was the Flag of our Union, and not of our State,
Then halloo, halloo, halloo, Rough and Ready,
While there're freemen in mountain and freemen in valley.
For thy cause, Rough and Ready, all proudly they'll rally.

For we know when in battle you firmly withstood
The shock of wild Aztecs — roll'd back like a flood.
No part of your country your love did enthral,
Your heart it was large enough to beat for it all!
Then halloo, haloo, haloo, Rough and Ready;
Full of hope for us all was each breath that he drew
Then give Rough and Ready, our loudest halloo!
