The Douglas Flag.

26

AIR – "The Minstrel Boy."

THE Douglas flag to the breeze is thrown,
The Lincoln crowd are trembling;
Their cause is lost they now must own,
In spite of their dissembling.
Their hopes were set upon the north,
And even they are faded,
The people's mandate has gone forth,
Disunion stands upbraided.

The Douglas flag is flying high,
And millions rally round it;
Their shouts for Douglas reach the sky,
Both North and South resound it.
Good men and true, they Douglas choose
To save us from perdition;
Buchanan trembles at the news,
And shirks his bold position.

The Douglas flag, the freeman's right,
Will sweep this land of ours;
The fanatics, both black and white,
Will soon find out its powers,
Four years at least of peaceful reign
Will fall upon our nation;
Disunionists shall plot in vain,
Their end will be vexation.
