TUNE -- "COMMENCE YE DARKIES ALL."

In Baltimore the Whigs agreed
To run "Old Chippewa,"
To beat Franklin Pierce, the fainting steed,
For so the people say.
Scott licked our foes at Chippewa,
Near by Niagara Falls;
He stormed the Castle of Vera Cruz,
And battered down its walls.

CHORUS.
Then hurra for Winfield Scott!
As loud as you can bawl,
Hurra! Hurra! For Winfield Scott!

At night he fought at Lundy's Lane,
'Gainst darkness, lead and steel;
He whipt old Johny Bull again,
And make the Lion kneel.

He next at Cerro Gordo's hights
Our country's honor saved,
In spite of "fire in rear" Polkites,
Who ript, and swore and raved.

CHORUS.

At Contreras he cleared his way,
Through pelting iron hail;
In Cherubusco's bloody fray
He cut through brazen mail;
'Midst fire and smoke he charged and scaled
Chepultepec's high walls,
Flung out our glorious stars and stripes
From Montezuma's Halls.

CHORUS.

Then sound his name on high,
His banner be displayed;
We'll shout aloud his battle-cry,
And march in his brigade;
And "all together" faster too,
We'll roll along the ball;
For Scott can lick the Locos, too,
And never faint nor fall.

CHORUS.
