Notes.

1. On the basis of WHH's sequential numbering of his four interviews with Edwards, this and the following two items (which WHH numbered 1, 2, 3) may have been written earlier than §91, the interview dated September 22, 1865 (which WHH numbered 4).

2. Presumably refers to AL's legislative interests and activities in the Illinois House of Representatives (1834 — 41). Edwards himself served in the House (1836 — 39 and 1848 — 52) and also in the Illinois Senate (1844 — 48).

3. Refers to a special, as opposed to regular, session.

4. WHH left room for the names of those elected.
