Hail, Columbia!
5
A WHIG BATTLE-CRY.
Hail, Columbia! happy land!
Hail the chieftain of our band!
Who fought and bled in Freedom's cause,
Who fought and bled in Freedom's cause,
And when the storms of war were gone,
Enjoyed the fame his valor won.
Let Scott and Freedom be our boast --
We will not yield till all is lost;
He that bravely death defies,
Let his praises reach the skies.
Firm, united let us be,
All for Scott and Victory;
One great band of brothers joined,
Whigs in heart, and Whigs in mind.
Immortal Patriots! rise once more!
Defend the rights you loved before;
Let no rude foe with impious hand,
Let no rude foe with impious hand,
Defile the brow where sacred lies
Of toil and blood the well-earned prize.
In Scott, the man sincere and just,
The world may place a manly trust,
That Truth and Justice will preside
Where'er the Ship of State may ride.

Firm, united let us be,All for Scott and Victory;
One great band of brothers joined,
Whigs in heart, and Whigs in mind,
Sound, sound the trump of Fame!
Let Winfield Scott's great name
Ring through the land with loud applause,
Ring through the land with loud applause;
Let every Soul to Freedom dear,
Listen with a joyful ear.
With careful skill, with trustful power,
He'll govern in the fearful hour
Of foreign war, or guide with grace
In happier times of present peace.
Firm, united let us be,
All for Scott and Victory;
One great band of brothers joined,
Whigs in heart, and Whigs in mind.
Behold! the Chief who now commands,
Once more to serve his country stands,
A rock on which the storm may beat,
A rock on which the storm may beat,
But, armed in Virtue, firm and true,
His hopes are fixed on heaven and you.
When Hope was sinking in dismay,
And gloom obscured Columbia's day,
At Chippewa and Lundy's Lane
He fought for Liberty again.
Firm, united let us be,
All for Scott and Victory;
One great band of brothers joined,
Whigs in heart, and Whigs in mind.
