My name is Jno R Dougherty — am 40 ys old. Knew Allen Gentry well — didn't Know Lincoln. Gentry has Shown me the place where the niggers attacked him and Lincoln. The place is not Wade Hamptons — but was at Mdme Bushans Plantation about 6 M below Baton Rouche — I was born in Spencer Co Ind. Lincoln worked & Clerked for Col Jones at Gentryville 15 M north of this place (Rockport) — L drove a team — cut up Pork & sold good for Jones — Col Jones told me that Lincoln read all his books and I remember _______ History of the U.S. as one — have forgotten all others and Even the name of that — Jones often said to me that Lincoln would make a great man one of these days — Had said so long before & to other people — Said so as far back as 1828 — 9 —
