164. E. R. Burba to William H. Herndon.

Hodgenville Ky — March the 5th 1866

Dear Sir

I am in receipt of of note from you T. G. Needham of Elizabeth Town Ky — in which I learn that you are engaged in writing the Biography of Abraham Lincon and desire all the informa you can get and from this (Larue) County in particular the County of his birth — I have lived within two miles of the place where it is said he was Born. And any assistance I can render you in collecting information for the purpose you Speak of I will do it cheerfully I am aware that you have already a correspondent in this place and there is but few persons in or near here but Know it also —

I presume Mr Needham will write you & let you Know how near I came in filling the bill of the Kind of a Man whose services you wish to secure in this Matter — If you should write to me for certain reasons I would request you to write to "E.R. Burba clk then it will pass off as a business letter unfortunately our post office is not Kept as privately as some are — I have been Clerk of the County & Circuit Courts here for some years & Most of the letters I receive are addressed in that way and no notice in particular is taken of them
