No. 18. Shouting the Battle-cry of Labor.
Tune: "Battle Cry of Freedom.
A. A. Smith.
1. We are marshalled for a conflict, with the enemies of toil,
Shouting the battle-cry of labor.
Mankind will hail our progress as we plow the fertile soil,
Shouting the battle-cry of labor.
CHORUS.
Down with the trust pools, crown labor king,
Farmers, mechanics and toilers may sing,
For the Carpenter of Nazareth a jubilee will bring,
Shouting the battle-cry of labor.
2. We are weary of the "cornering" of grain by boards of trade,
Shouting the battle-cry of labor,
Why should they double tribute take on corn our labor made,
Shouting the battle-cry of labor.
Chorus.
3. The railroad combination takes the crop to pay the freight,
Shouting the battle cry of labor.
Monopolistic capital has captured every state,
Shouting the battle cry of labor.
Chorus.
4. We've borne the burden many years, we're ready for the fight,
Shouting the battle-cry of labor,
Let counter combination now protect the toilers' right,
Shouting the battle-cry of labor.
Chorus.
5. We seek a dispensation which will give a just reward,
Shouting the battle-cry of labor.
And we base our expectations on the righteousness of God,
Shouting the battle cry of labor.
Chorus.
