Songs For the Toiler.
No. 1. Opening Song.
J. J. Martin
1. We here have now in council met
In Freedom's ranks to serve;
Our hearts and hands in union strong,
No fear or threats can serve.
For Justice is our cornerstone,
And Truth our sword and shield:
Fraternity our battle-cry,
The world our battlefield.
2. To elevate humanity,
Our end and aim should be,
To break the shackles from their limbs,
And set the wage slaves free.
3. Too long hath man upon his kind,
Inflicted wrong and pain,
And made earth's places desolate.
Where peace and love should reign.
4. The age of reason now hath dawned,
And Truth's effulgent rays
Shall lift the mists of ignorance,
And set the world ablaze.
