Hooker Relieved!
Gen. Hooker is "relieved at his own request," and those people — Copperheads and others" — who hated him so much ought also to feel relieved.
His successor is Maj. Gen. Mead, whose name has been seen occasionally in print as a division commander. We presume, however, that those politicians who think the country is to be saved by declaring every new appointee a Napoleon, will at once discover his amazing genius, and begin to prophecy achievements for him that will outshine Alexander and Ceaser. As for us we prefer to judge him by his acts.
