MASSACHUSETTS COUNCIL TO GENERAL LINCOLN.

Boston, December 20, 1776.

SIR: The Board have received your letter of 18th instant, and the intrenching tools are sent forward, and I am directed by the Council to inform you that it is their opinion, that it is of the greatest importance to the United States of America, that you should immediately proceed with the troops destined to reinforce the Army near New-York, to Danbury, in Connecticut, and order them to proceed from thence to such place as the commanding officer may direct.
