December 9th, 1776.
SIR: I received a letter from the Doctor, requesting the favour of Captain Platt to use his influence towards procuring him an appointment in one of the four regiments in our Province to be raised during the war. He was not informed who are our present members of Congress, or he would have wrote on that head to you. The Doctor gives his best regards to Captain Platt.
From your friend,
TEMPERANCE COOK,
To Captain Platt, Fishhills.
