General Arnold to General Heath

v3:1466

GENERAL ARNOLD TO GENERAL HEATH.

Fish Kill, December 28th, 1776.

DEAR GENERAL: This minute I arrived here from Head-Quarters, on my way to join our Army at or near Providence. I have received express orders from General Washington, to forward on the Militia from Massachusetts and Connecticut as fast as possible to Head-Quarters, as his Excellency has very little dependence on the Militia of Pennsylvania, Jerseys, or on the troops he now has, their times of inlistment being so near at an end. He apprehends it will be very difficult to retain them any considerable time.

I have the pleasure to hear this minute that a large number of the Militia are arrived at Peak' s Kills. I make no doubt you will forward them on as fast as possible. General Washington will be glad to know as early as possible what number there are, and when he may expect they will join him.

I am, with esteem, dear General, your obedient, humble servant,

B˙ ARNOLD.

Major-General Heath.
