Amesbury, May 12, 1775.
SIR: Mr˙ John Currier has enlisted about forty soldiers, who are ready to march, provided he may be their Captain, (and upon this condition they enlisted,) and we can recommend him to be a person of good character, and conducted very well in the last war, and that he has been steady and faithful in the affairs of the Town he has been chosen to serve in; and we desire that he may be enlisted to the office that his soldiers expected him to have; and further, we expect that he will shortly enlist more men to fill his Company. And as we lately received a letter from the Congress, recommending to us to be assisting and encouraging the enlisting of soldiers, we have done our
