Dr. McKnight to General Heath

v3:752

DR˙ McKNTGHT TO GENERAL HEATH.

Peekskill, November 18, 1776.

May it please your Honour: Your just sense of the necessity of establishing a part of the General Hospital at the Kills, for the reception and proper accommodation of the sick of your division, has caused me to make inquiry for houses which might be proper for that purpose, but could find none that, in my opinion, would answer that end so well as the churches, which are by no means at present fitted for it, nor will be until fire-places or stoves are provided, previous to the reception of any; and bunks or cribs for them to lie in are absolutely necessary for their comfortable accommodation, which ought to be immediately fitted or made within the churches or any other building should be made choice of. Captain Adams of the mechanicks is the only proper person to see and order the necessary alterations, as also the making of the bunks.

Should this meet with your approbation, you will be pleased to give Captain Adams his orders.

Your Honour' s most obedient, humble servant,

CHA' S McKNIGHT, Jr.

To Hon˙ Major-General Heath.
