We, the subscribers, do hereby severally and respectively promise and engage to the Governour of the State of Connecticut, on the faith and honour of gentlemen, that we will neither of us give notice or intelligence to the enemy of the United States of America, nor hold any inimical correspondence with them; that we will not take up or bear arms against the United States of America, nor act an offensive part against them, or either of them, but to conduct peaceably and quietly with respect to the present contest and troubles, and return back to this State when required by the Governour.
As witness our hands, this ninth day of December, A˙ D˙ 1776.
