Passed October 26, 1776.
Whereas it is highly probable there may soon be occasion for a number of the Militia from this State to march in support of the Continental Army acting in the Northern Department; and as there is reason to apprehend that the Militia in some of the western counties are not so amply provided with Arms and Military Supplies as to march speedily to the assistance of their brethren in the Army, if called upon for that purpose:
Therefore, Resolved, That the Commissary-General of this State be directed to cause to be transported into the County of Berkshire, two hundred Fire-Arms, one thousand weight of Gunpowder, and one thousand weight of Leaden Balls, to the care of Timothy Edwards, Jerathmeel Woodbridge, and Samuel Brown, Esquires, of Stockbridge, or either of them, to be disposed of to such of the inhabitants of said County as are destitute of Anns, &c˙, at the rates following, viz: The Fire-Arms at such price as he or they shall judge them to be worth; the Powder at five shillings per pound; and the Leaden Ball at the rate of fifty shillings per hundred weight; and that the said Timothy Edwards, Jerathmeel Woodbridge, and Samuel Brown, be directed to give publick notice in said County of said articles being deposited in their hands for the purposes before mentioned; and that he be accountable to the General Assembly of this State for the same.
