SIRS: Captain John Carey is in want of a mate, as he informs me. There is a good-looking young man that came mate of a prize schooner taken by Captain Cook, that is willing immediately to enter with Captain Cary as mate, but Captain Cook will not release him without your orders. So would have you write him. I have done all in my power to get him, but it don' t seem satisfactory to Captain Cook. As I have wrote you so often this way I add no more.
From your humble servant,
JESSE HOLLINGSWORTH.
The honourable Council of Safety, Annapolis.
He has a boy, apprentice to himself, which he expects with him. Please name it to Captain Cook. I have applied to Captain Cook in person. He says he must have your instructions. Has not seen Mr˙ Nicholson, the Judge of the Court of Admiralty, as yet, nor do I think Mr˙ Nicholson will undertake in this case. So please to be full in the matter.
