Recommendation of Lieutenant Lawrence

New-Windsor, December 27th, 1776.

Lieutenant Lawrence, of my regiment, being desirous to continue in the service, if there was a vacancy for him, and applies to me for a recommendation. He is desirous to serve in your regiment, if you can help him to a place; if not, I hope you will use your endeavour to have him appointed in some other, as I believe he will make a good officer, as he is always willing to do his duty; but the officers of my regiment have never had it in their power to show their courage.
