Peekskill, December 20, 1776.
Yesterday I saw Mr˙ Peter Benedict, who was appointed First Lieutenant under me. He informs me that he continues in the service. He is much obliged to the honourable Convention for their appointment; but his circumstances are such that he can by no means serve. I should be very glad if I could have an officer appointed in his stead, as I labour under great disadvantages in my recruiting, by not having my complement of officers, and being very lame at present myself.
I am, your very humble servant,
JONATHAN HALLET.
To the honourable Convention, Fishkill.
