Whereas it appears that the Rangers raised in several of the Counties within this State, by virtue of certain Resolutions of the Convention, bearing date the 23d day of July, 1776, for the purpose of ranging the woods and guarding the inhabitants on the frontier parts of such Counties, are not now wanted for the purpose for which they were raised, since such a large body of Continental Troops are raised and raising for the defence of the country: Therefore,
Resolved, That the several Companies of Rangers aforesaid be disbanded on day of, and paid such moneys as remain due, except the Companies of Captain Belknap and Captain De Witt, who are now on important service.
Resolved and Ordered, That the Chairmen of the County Committees where such Rangers have been raised do immediately transmit to the Convention of this State all the Muster, Pay and Subsistence Rolls of such Companies of Rangers as they may or have received and not heretofore sent to the Convention, with an account of the disposition of the moneys they have received from the Treasurer of this State for payment of said Rangers, with the receipts of the several persons to whom said money has been paid.
Resolved, That be and is hereby appointed Paymaster, to go to Albany and Tryon Counties and pay the moneys due to said Companies to the Captain or Commanding Officer of such Companies, for the use of their said Companies; and that be advanced, by the Treasurer of this State, the sum of to enable him to pay such Rangers.
Resolved, That be and he is hereby appointed Paymaster to go to Charlotte County, and pay the Captain or Commanding Officers of each Company of Rangers of said County the money due to them for their respective Companies; and that the Treasurer of this State advance to the said the sum of to enable him to pay such Rangers.
Resolved, That be and he is hereby appointed
Paymaster to go to the Counties of Cumberland and Gloucester, and pay the Captains or Commanding Officers of each Company of Rangers of said Counties the moneys due to them for their respective Companies; and that the Treasurer of this State advance to the said the sum of, to enable him to pay such Rangers.
Resolved, That the above-named Paymasters be each allowed
per day, for their time and expense while executing the above Resolves.
Ordered, That the Secretaries transmit copies of these Resolutions to the Chairmen of the several County Committees aforesaid.
