COLONEL GADSDEN TO JOHN LEWIS GERVAIS.

Sullivan' s Island, October 8, 1776.

SIR: We have now not one barrel of pork left; therefore desire you will send us down a month' s salt provistans as soon as possible for a store. The Adjutant, Mr˙ Hamilton, will tell you the reason of this. I should also be glad you would send me a hogshead of rum for the regiment by the first opportunity. I am obliged to give a great deal of rum to the labourers about the bridge.
