Peekskill, December 9th, 1776.
DEAR SIR: I have this moment received orders from General Washington to move over the North River with the Continental troops under my command, to wit: your brigade. You will therefore immediately give orders to Prescott' s, Ward' s, and Wylly' s regiments, to be ready to march to-morrow, at ten o' clock; tents, kettles, and light baggage only to be carried. The heavy baggage to be left with the men who are unfit for duty. Four days' provisions to be taken. Hard biscuit may be drawn.
I am, dear sir, yours, &c˙,
W˙ Heath, Major-General.
